Unique acrylic staircase - won an award at the Architects' Darling Awards 2016
This staircase was completely designed and implemented in a house near the city of Beroun at the client's request to revive their home spa and to connect the lower part of the spa area with the upper, relaxation zone in a functional and aesthetic way.
The uniqueness and originality of this staircase lies in the implementation of a large stone block, which was placed in the middle of the room and in a way interfered with any installation of a standard staircase.
We were therefore invited to consult on how we could resolve the matter. The only thing that could be done so that in terms of space and height the basic dimensions of the staircase would fit (according to the ČSN standard) was to make the stone part of the staircase itself.
- We devised the type, shape and design of the staircase in such a way that the stone forms part of the landing and thus does not prevent the staircase from reaching the required floor height.
- The stone was slightly modified so that special stainless steel bolts could be drilled into it, which form the basis of the entire and we could say self-supporting staircase system.
- The individual steps are made of a special absolutely clear acrylic, which gives the whole project a unique look.
For the upper arm, we designed and installed everything so that the load-bearing part holding the anchors for the steps was also in the same interior design, made of a wooden beam specially adapted for our project. - The stone was then drilled from top to bottom with a 40 mm diameter hole, and on the other side of the staircase we created an ornamental pond into which we let water flow over the stone which acted to moisten the air in the room and also for pleasing aesthetics.
We subsequently designed and implemented for the clients the complete interior in the living room and kitchen. Above the space in question we also installed a glass walkway floor, which created a beautiful airy space for the study.
The clients subsequently won the „Log Cabin of the Year 2019“ competition with this interior
